COURTNEY & TRENT - CORONATION HALL - SOMERSET DAM
It’s safe to say, these two lovebird have enjoyed a beautiful journey together since they first met at a music festival 7 years ago. With their wedding planning priorities on-point, their goal was to create a ‘love bubble’ for all of their family and friends to enjoy.
To bring their wedding day to life at Coronation Hall in Somerset Dam, they hired our mobile bartender and mobile pop up bar service, set up within the wedding hall. Our portable event bar suited their wedding styling perfectly, and ensured all guests were refreshed and hydrated.
As a special event treat, they also hired our mobile cocktail catering service to offer late night espresso martini cocktails to get the party started.
How and when did you both meet?
Trent and I met at a music festival in Yeppoon in 2010. I had not long moved to Rockhampton for a job at the local television station after finishing uni. We chatted over (extremely bad) mulled wine, about the fact Trent was wearing the world’s weirdest outfit, complete with thongs that were clearly 5 times too big for his feet (turns out he was wearing his friends clothes… as he hadn’t planned on going out that night!) Our first ‘date’ was a week later when we went to the beach together for the afternoon and played noughts and crosses in the sand. Our first six months together was fabulous. Because I was living in Rocky away from my family and most of my friends, it was a really lovely time of just Trent and I in our very own love bubble.
What type of vibe were you looking to create for your wedding?
We wanted everyone to know that they were a big part of our love bubble! We really wanted a fun, intimate, relaxed celebration of our love and all of those special people in our lives who we love so dearly.
How and why did you choose your wedding venue?
Trent grew up on a cattle station in central Queensland, so we wanted something a little bit country, but a bit closer to the big smoke than his property. We fell in love with our ceremony spot as soon as we saw it, a beautiful old fig tree made for the perfect spot to get hitched under on what turned out to be a very steamy day (38 degrees!) As for our reception spot, Coronation Hall just has a great feel to it - it's warm and cosy as well as being massive with plenty of space to boogie later in the night.
What was the most unforgettable part of the day?
It's hard to pick just one thing - the whole day was so wonderful. Having all of our friends and family together was such a (rare) treat, it was incredible.
Tell us about some of the special little details and special touches you made or planned?
Trent's best mate (and best man) Matty sang me down the aisle, that was pretty special. We included Trent's parents wedding song (Endless Love - classic 80s!) in our ceremony, we played an acoustic version while signing the registry. We wrote our own vows, which was really special and so lovely for us both to hear them for the first time as we said them to each other. As for the fun stuff, one of my most talented and fabulous girlfriends baked our cake - which was incredible tasting and looking! The cake was complemented by an espresso martini cocktail hour, which was a huge hit and so much fun on the night. And we topped the night off with a mini-magnum for all our guests, which everyone loved because it was so hot and steamy!!
Why did you choose to work with Gathering Events, and was tell us what inspired your bar menu?
We wanted a fun and funky way to serve our guests drinks and Gathering fitted the bill. We loved having our very own pop-up bar in our reception venue, and it was such a treat to see how it really pulled the whole night together. Our drinks menu covered all bases... beer, wine and champers obviously make up a very important part of most weddings! But we also wanted to make sure our spirit drinkers were catered for later in the evening. The espresso martini cocktail hour was definitely the highlight though!
Ceremony song?
Here Comes The Sun - performed by Trent's best mate, and best man, Matty.
First dance song?
Friday I'm In Love - The Cure
Any wise advice you would offer other couples leading up to their wedding?
Chill out! Delegate! Get some happy helpers! It's such a fun and wild ride, and one that only happens (hopefully!) once in your life, so it's a time to enjoy.
With your wedding (and wedding planning) all wrapped up, how do you feel?
We're thrilled - because we're married! And we had he most wonderful celebration which we will always remember. As for what we'll do with all of our spare time, well we're just starting out on renovating a 100+ year old house so I reckon we'll have our hands full!
Any funny/ memorable/ silly/ unexpected stories you can share from the day?
There was the part where the bus with all of our guests went to the wrong venue?!?! So the bridal car had to drive at 10km an hour to delay the bride's arrival. When we did finally arrive, half an hour late, a massive storm cloud was lurking and threatening to explode on us! But we all got there in the end, and what's a good love story without a hurdle along the way? Ha!
